The one personality trait you won't find in high achievers
But you will find it in high performers.
Conformism.
You know, the “yes-man” type of people.
What ever the authority in the room says, they agree.
And that’s the thing: only if there’s an authority. The person they perceive as such. Because in front of everyone else? They’re the authority. Kinda.
It’s a mask.
They often look like high achievers, but in fact they’re just the perfect executors.
They can only achieve if they know how to do it.
But when they have to “reinvent the wheel”? When there’s uncertainty? When it comes to innovation and creativity?
You’ll hear “nah, that won’t work, it never has”. You know, these people who have a problem for every solution.
It’s human nature.
In fact, this type of behavior is common to most of the people.
You have to push yourself outside of your comfort zone in order to be able to invent new things. New ways. New models. New products.
That’s not in the nature of the conformist.
If you give them the path they’ll walk it the most efficient way.
But if you only give them the destination, they fail at finding the path.
I’ve been leading hundreds of people. And I’ve seen this so often. One thing is for sure: it’s not a bad thing. These people do have real value. When it comes to a timely execution in the frames of what’s known, they’re the top performers.
But being a top performer if not a prerequisite to be a high achiever.
High achievers are those who can accomplish something from scratch without external guidance. People with entrepreneurial spirit. The spirit of innovation.
Can you become one?
I personally believe everything is possible for a determined and disciplined human.
But I’ve seen people transform and I’ve seen people fail.
All it takes is a growth mindset.
The best book I’ve read on the topic: Infinite Games by Simon Sinek.
Read it.
It worths the time.
And remember to have a GUT time in the process!
